This post contains affiliate links in which I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. Please see our full disclosure policy for more information.

Blogging can be a fun way to share your hobby or experiences with the online world. It can also become a chore over time. But if you turn your blogging hobby into a money-making business, then you’ll be encouraged to spend time on it every day, instead of letting it sit stagnant like the millions of other blogs out there.

If you simply create a blog with one of the free blogging tools then it may get some traffic, but it if you really want to make money then you will put hundreds of hours in it, carefully creating a framework. I started my journey on my own and spent hours learning and making mistakes. Let me share a few things to save you a little time.

How does one make money blogging?

You may be wondering how to monetize a blog. There are a few different ways to go about it. Some you may enjoy doing, while others may not be right for you.

  • Advertising Revenue
  • Product Review
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Sale Knowledge
  • Product Creation, Sales, and E-Books
  • Memberships
  • Services
  • E-Commerce
  • Sponsored Blog Posts
  • Guest Post Writing
  • Paid Social Media Coverage
  • Event Coverage
  • Paid Video and Photography Projects

#1. Advertising Revenue

One of the easiest methods works the same whether you’re setting up a virtual magazine or a printed magazine and that’s through advertising revenue. Other businesses will pay you money to have ad placement on your website. They may even pay you to review their products.

#2. Affiliate Income

Affiliate income is another way to bring in some cash. Basically, you’re linking to a product on a selling platform, such as Amazon, Shopify, or an e-Commerce site. Any time you direct traffic to that site and they purchase something you will receive a portion of the commissions. Often the content on your site may be related to the types of products you’re directing traffic to.

#3. Sale Knowledge

Perhaps one of the more lucrative income sources is to offer events or training courses. It can be one-on-one training or you can simply record a video series and offer it as a bundle for sale. As your expertise grows, you may hold local events and charge a ticket price. You may be invited to special conferences where you’ll be paid for your appearance.

#4. Product Creation, Sales and E-books

You can write your own books or apps and sell them on your blog and other e-Commerce sites. You may even create your own merchandise with your branded information and sell that online too.

#5. Memberships

You may choose to have an informative blog but then offer a membership portal that gives access for a monthly subscription fee. This gives access to a wide selection of training materials or an informative course.

#6. Services

You may even offer other types of services to readers in your specialty. For instance, if you’re a crafter, you may sell products on your blog that you’ve actually made. Perhaps you’re a graphic designer or copywriter. How about Virtual Assistance? The list is only as limited as your imagination.

#7. E-Commerce and Sale Products

You can set up your own e-Commerce site and sell products. If you don’t want to run a warehouse or have goods filling up your garage, there is something that is called drop-shipping. You sell the products but work with a wholesaler who tackles the inventory and shipping for you.

#8. Sponsored Posts

There are also other ways to have your blog make money. You can offer sponsored posts where someone else does the guest blogging for a day. You can have competitions and giveaways that bring attention to your site. Once you’ve achieved a high level of expertise in your niche you can offer coaching or consulting to other businesses.

#9. Guest Posting

You might have the opportunity to write a sponsored post and instead of posting it on your blog you post it on the brand’s site.

#10. Social Media Coverage

Being paid to post on your social media accounts.

#11. Event Coverage

You might be asked to attend an event and then write about your experience.

#12. Paid For Video and Photography

If you’re a talented photographer or video producer you can sale your quality videos and photography to other bloggers.

How to get started?

I spent a lot of time doing things that were not necessary. I used programs that were outdated and would have saved so much time and energy if I had had an expert guiding me.

There is plenty you can do to make money from a blog. Most people are interested in one or two aspects and may decide to try a few ideas for their own blogs, and ignore the rest for the moment. You can create goals for your blog and tackle each step for each month that passes.

As your blog earns traffic, you’ll become more of an authority in your niche and be able to raise your prices and ask for more money for your products and services.

This is a lot of information to process and obviously, you can’t do all these income streams all at once. And one thing you should know is that you’re going to need to spend a little money on your blog, to start with the domain and hosting min. is generally $50. With this you can get a great jump start and on your way to making money. I would recommend writing a few posts to be ahead of the game then take this free course to help get you started.

Now if your really ready to launch let me share a few things.

One of the main issues with monetizing a blog is knowing where to spend the money and how you should go about it. As you can see from the above, there are many different avenues to pursue and most of them take time and money to set up.

One of the best ways to learn about blogging is by taking an informative course from someone who has already achieved great success in their own blogging adventures. Experts will guide you through the process of setting it up and how to effectively monetize it.

Generally, I am fairly frugal. I’m one of those people who hates spending money on movies because I often walk out feeling disappointed that it was a waste of money…

Well, unless it’s The Greatest Showman… I’ve seen that 8 times! 🙂

I was really worried about spending money on a blogging course to help get me started in earning money as a blogger. I participated in Heather and Pete Reese 3o Day Blogging Fast Track and Travel Blogger Fast Track Program.  I thought I’d regret spending this amount of money on a blogging course, but after taking it, I haven’t regretted it one bit. I wish I would not have wasted so much time trying to google and learn things on my own. This was a quick and easy way to get the help I needed and with a supportive community offer suggestions and encouragement as well, how could I go wrong.  Heather and Pete Reese are very quick with offering help if I need it. My time is so valuable that I learned time is money and this course saved me months of learning on my own.

Heather and Pete will teach you exactly how to make that money and break down and show you how to use each income stream that will fit for you. Remember you can add a few different income streams to your blog to see what works and what doesn’t all with help a few min. away when. It’ll take a bit of time to get your blog earning real cash, but once it does it will be extremely rewarding!

Heather and Pete also just started a WordPress blastoff course as well that will teach you how to get your domain and hosting and set up the pages, posts, and menus.

Where have you found the best place to put your investment in launching your business?
